‘Simple Church’ by Thom S. Rainer and Eric Geiger is a
groundbreaking new look at an old idea.
I actually am not sure where to begin reviewing this book I enjoyed it
so much. One of the
most redeeming qualities of this book is that it is simple. It presents a concept that is meant to
whittle away at the extras that we’ve added to the Church through programs and
processes that simply don’t work. The
book presents it all in such a way that it allows readers to understand the process, and how important and Biblical that process is.
The entire
book operates around the concepts of: Clarity, Movement, Alignment and
Focus. Throughout the different chapters
they cover case studies, true to life stories and of course the four
aforementioned concepts, as well as how to move toward being a simple church.
This is a
book that I would recommend to anyone in ministry at a church, or any kind of
leadership at a church. The big and
simple idea is that churches need to be horizontally focused on moving people
from unbeliever to believer to servant.
Essentially, the concept is to prepare the saints for the work of
ministry and this book provides a marvelous blueprint for that.
